The fall is one of the most exciting times of the year for Scouters when we renew our pack program with exciting new activities. This is also the time, through fall recruitment, that we can give every youth the opportunity to become a Scout and receive the benefits of a proven program that gives a young person the skills necessary to be successful in life! We are asking each Cub Scout pack to attend one of five available dates: July 10 in Abington, July 24 in Sudbury, July 30 in Marshfield, July 31 in Medfield or August 6 in Milford.
On the agenda:
- Planning your sign-up night with best practices so that we can help publicize your event.
- What’s new this year, including paid digital advertising.
- Resources for Recruitment: How-to manuals, yard signs, recruitment flyers, and materials for your sign-up night. We’ll review them all!
Why you should attend:
A national survey of parents who attended a pack joining night was conducted and sheds light on some reasons why parents who come may choose not to enroll their child in Scouting, or claim to be dissatisfied. In the majority of instances where parents were unhappy with their Scouting experience, they felt that the joining night lacked organization, offered a poor program, the organizers were not prepared, or there was no follow up to ensure the child was placed in a functioning den. For many parents, this is the first experience they have with Scouting, so their initial impression is crucial. If parents leave with a bad experience they may never give Scouts another chance. For this reason we all need to work hard to ensure that the new families feel welcomed and informed. Remember, parents trust us with their most precious treasures – their children, and we are also trying to impress them that Cub Scouting is worth their effort as a parent as well as a potential volunteer. We must always do our best to meet their highest expectations.
